I began painting family portraits over 15 years ago. They are a more cartoon-like variation of my painting style and a true joy to create. Why? Every family portrait is a collaboration, a team effort. You provide the inspiration, the stories and I simply provide a visual interpretation. I could never create these pieces without each patron’s input. I love the interpretative process of each painting. And I hope you will consider your own commission.

PRICE
Prices start at $150. Price is determined by the size of the painting and complexity. It’s best to have a budget in mind before calling.
TIMEFRAME
Portraits take a while to create so plan ahead. I prefer a minimum of four weeks. Again, size and complexity are determining factors. A large, complex piece could take as long as ten weeks to complete. Please don’t wait until the last minute to order, especially if you have a specific deadline (birthday, wedding or holiday gift).
PROCESS
Once we determine your budget, the collaborative process begins. I will need photo references of everyone to be included in the painting. It is very helpful to schedule phone time to hear your stories about the people, physical descriptions, unique characteristics. I see pictures in my head when people speak to me. So your stories are helpful in generating visuals for your portrait. From our conversation, we’ll define a specific, meaningful list of symbols and imagery that will become part of the portrait.
Armed with background info and photo references, I first create a line drawing of your portrait. I’ll email it for discussion and make edits as you direct. Once the line drawing is approved – the fun begins – painting!
The finished painting will be shipped ready for framing.
